Secret Walls – Atlanta Edition (Recap)

Posted On 09/30/14.

Secret Walls (formerly Secret Wars) is the World’s premier live art battle. Working in a similar way to Fight Club, Secret Walls battles are set up and promoted through word of mouth & social media.

Battles take place between 2 individuals, or 2 teams of artists.

Secret Walls began back in 2006 in a small bar in East London, it was small, and intimate yet had the potential to be so much more. Years of hard work, dedication and a strong following has meant Secret Walls has pushed the boundaries and raised the bar for artists and promoters alike on an international stage.

Boasting experience in major cities including NYC, London, Lisbon, Berlin, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Dublin and Amsterdam, proves and many more, proves that there really isn’t a stage big enough for the groundbreaking and award-winning event.

Cashew Company Journal Release Event (RECAP)

Posted On 01/21/14.

January 11th marked the release date of Cashew Company’s first volume of their journal featuring in depth interviews and impeccable photographs documenting the influential who’s-who of Atlanta’s creative scene. The highly successful event, hosted by local entertainment group Two9, brought out hundreds to support the newly launched publication. Setting the vibe for the night, DJ SpeakerFoxx paid homage to local ATLiens, Outkast, by playing some of their classic hits. Framed images from the journal, which were available for sale, were strategically placed across the gallery walls. Matt Swinsky, winner of the Tribeca Film Festival’s #6SecFilms Vine contest, also had his short horror clips on display. Attendees who purchased a copy of the journal received a complimentary 40 oz. Colt 45 to swig while getting a first-hand glance at the impressive project created by Cashew Co. Diwang at Motion Family sponsored the event and played an important role in creating the show. The support received from those who attended the release party exemplified the sense of camaraderie portrayed throughout the journal with intentions of uniting and inspiring the innovative community of Atlanta. Drive II (Recap)

Posted On 01/03/14.

Thanks to all those who attended the Drive II exhibition featuring paintings by Steve Dezember II. These pieces displayed simplistic backgrounds contrasted by vibrant colors strategically placed across the canvas. What makes Dezember’s work outstanding is his method in creating his pieces. In August of 2011 the artist was diagnosed with ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The neurodegenerative disease rapidly affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord resulting in loss of speech, muscular strength, and muscle control. Through a collaborative effort with Steve’s wife, Hope, the artist continues to create compelling pieces that inspires spectators to dig deep to find their drive. This drive enables people to defy the odds and continue to follow their passion against the face of adversity.

During the exhibition merchandise was displayed for sale by local vendors Love Is Art and Cold Georgia Clay. The night ended on a high note with a live performance by Zara Sky. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Hope for Steve foundation. To learn more about ALS and follow Steve Dezember’s story feel free to check out his website www.hopeforsteve.com.

Heineken Mural Project (Recap)

Posted On 10/15/13.

The Heineken Mural Project started with a bang on Monday September 30th when CLOGTWO and Inkten (Singapore), Chorboogie (San Francisco) Marak27 (Brooklyn), Angry Woebots (Hawaii) and PaperFrank (ATL) showed up ready to paint a solid batch of the cities most prominent walls.  During the week these talented artists had pop up parties at their walls to help promote their work and the project which co-insided with Atlanta’s largest hip-hop festival, A3C.

When hump day came along, these artists kicked back for a night at ABV Gallery to showcase their personal work to an energetic crowd looking to check out these new faces in Atlanta and to get their hands on an ice cold Heineken.   Throughout the night the artist created new work on a wall in the gallery while DJ DIBIA$E fueled the night with his killer mixes.

At the end of the week six new murals were completed all the way from Little 5 Points to Castleberry Hill.  To finish off the week, Heineken threw a closing party at FLUX2013, which also had live painting, music, and of course Heineken for all. Thanks to Shane at ART Whino, The Heineken Mural Project had some amazing artists help our streets look at little livelier.

Check out #heinekenmurals for all the photographs that you all posted throughout the week.
