the lost object x ALPLA

colony square installation

Location: Atlanta, GA

This summer, we teamed up with The Pineapple Agency, ALPLA, and The Lost Object! Together, we coordinated a large-scale mural to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability!

Artist Hyland Mather was chosen for this project as he is renowned for his use of found objects, which he calls "lost objects." He incorporates these items into various mediums such as mural painting, works on paper and canvas, as well as works in steel, light, and sound.

Together, we created "Nice Time," a large-scale art piece in Midtown Atlanta's Colony Square. Positioned against a large wall in The Grove, a small park at the intersection of 14th and Juniper Streets, the three-dimensional installation is exclusively crafted from plastics discovered by Mather in Atlanta, along with type 1, 2, and 5 recyclable plastics collected by ALPLA employees.

The inspiration behind "Nice Time" stems from a Portuguese expression, "If you don't have dogs, you have to hunt with cats," which conveys the resourcefulness and frugality that farmers employ to accomplish tasks even when solutions are not readily available.

Nice Time is about the time we live in. For all of the incredibly challenging obstacles ahead of us, humans are amazing. Right now, despite all of the injustices, protests, and concerns, we still live on a magnificent planet in an awe-inspiring time. This piece is about the moment, with the hope of an even brighter future.” - Mather

Mather's art piece will be exhibited at the Midtown mixed-use destination throughout the summer.
